Anybody can see that your data is being retrieved from the server which means your router is the one doing it.
I would try checking what other machines are accessing the torrent on the network and see if you can find something that’s downloading in a similar fashion. If you want to prevent that information from reaching the server you need to use a VPN solution (like the one that we offer at Private Internet Access).
Most basic solution: block the IP addresses of the router and the torrent service provider. It might help to update to a newer firmware version of your router to see if that improves things.
“No. To hide your IP in a very basic sense it would mean that you host the network in your house, and setup your router to route everyone’s traffic through you.”
Almost certainly not what you want. You need to connect your router to your private network, connect your desktop PC to your private network and install OpenVPN on your router. Connect your desktop PC to your router. You are going to configure it such that a client connects directly to your router and then routes traffic that you want to send to the internet through the router, and routes any traffic back from the Internet to your router.
There are a few things you can do here:
First of all, you mentioned you’re using the Asus RT-N66U, which has web management software built into it. You can access it in two ways: via a web browser or via the LinkSys application.
With a web browser, you can access the settings for your router directly. It’s going to be where the IP address is changed.
With the LinkSys application you can access the settings for your router directly, as well. You can access this through the app itself, or just open the app and click on “settings”.
If you find the settings for the IP address in your router, you could change it to something else. Just be careful, changing your IP address and changing your DNS server are two completely different things, and your computer is going to keep on thinking you’re at the DNS server you’ve been using before.
You could also try disabling UPnP:
If UPnP is enabled, all the computers on your network may be able
to access the resources on the network while you are connected.
Therefore, we strongly recommend that you disable it.
